Delicious crabs, shrimp, fries, and amazing service!
Delicious oysters and crab cakes. Great staff.
The best thing about Sambo's is being located in one of the prettiest areas of Delaware. The views over the river and marshes are gorgeous. The food is very well prepared with simple steamed, salted crabs with butter and Delaware style crab cakes although all kinds of seafood is on the menu. This is not a Maryland Old Bay restaurant. The downside is the price, which is very high for a rural crab shack, $30 for a crab cake platter. They did have one steak on the menu for your non crab eating friend who you like anyway, but aren't quite sure about.
Delicious food, friendly staff.Just wasn't happy about the cash only policy.
The best crab cakes and blue crabs on our trip. Great service and staff that made our lunch very enjoyable. We'll be returning when we're up North again. TY.
We would not have found Sambo’s without Google maps and its very good reviews. We agree with them. A nice mom-and-pop business with a decent selection of beers and excellent crabcakes! Friendly, helpful service, too.
Spent some time in Delaware and after researching where to go for some good eats, Sambo's Tavern made the list. Fresh local seafood combinations can be had here. FRESH, and made right, nothing fancy here folks, just good eats. Grab a beer and shoot the breeze with the staff , that alone is worth the trip. This place is a definite throw back Delaware eatery, bring cash, no cards accepted. Great views of the Leipsoc River, the area is a nice place to walk off your calories after visit.
Great seafood, nice scenery and setting. The service was excellent had a great time.
Always love the food here and the views. Nice cold beverages.
Good service. Good food 👍
The Dungeness Crab was fabulous! The Delaware Bay crabs were a first for me, so I have no comparison for them. Make sure to call for reservations or you'll have to wait for a place to sit. We'll be back for the Dungeness and to try other items for sure
Very good food with outrageously high prices for small portions, especially since they accept cash only. Crab cake sandwich $15, condiments extra $, $2 for tiny sides. Been there 3 times but not going back again.
Great crab cakes! Friendly atmosphere....
Great food, great views, great service.
The service was very slow from the kitchen. The crab bisque was terrible. Too thick, not a lot of crab, and way too salty. My wife had crab cakes which were great and I had soft shell crabs which were small but good. Pricing is on the high side for a back water crab shack. Beware they only take cash.
My mom loves the crab imperial. Lots of good seafood on the menu. Great setting on the water. Good service too.
The crabs are delicious and reasonable! They use a thick whitish salt mixture that is so tasty! They mix various sizes together and don't cook them until you put your order in. The servers treat you like family even though we didn't make a reservation
Fantastic little seafood place. All of the food tasted super fresh and was delicious. Get the crab cakes!
Awesome crab cakes the best I've ever had service was good restaurant was clean all the staff were friendly prices decent left their full and satisfied will definitely be back
Out of the way seafood eatery in Leipsic, Delaware. No frills, clean and pleasant atmosphere with courteous, friendly and knowledgeable staff. We came in the mid afternoon for an early dinner. Not crowded but reservations are recommended. As for food. My wife and I dined on crab cakes and soft shell crabs. My crab cakes were solid lump carb meat perectly cooked. I would say they were among the, if not, thee best crab cakes I ever had. My wife's soft shells were equally excellent. This was our first time at Sambo's and won't be the last.
Besides the delicious food and the no frills atmosphere, the location is perfect. Off the beaten path, view of the water, and, since no one under 21 is allowed, no distractions from screaming little ones. Please take the time to follow a detour to Sambo's - you will not be disappointed. Did I mention the desserts are delicious?
As a single female, going out to eat alone is not always welcoming.I went to Sambos on a Monday afternoon at 4:00, for a lite dinner before I continued on my travels. I was approached by waitress April asking if I had reservations. As I looked around the completely empty tavern and restaurant, I thought she was kidding. I asked " do I need one?". She said "yes we have a lot of people coming in". She was not kidding. I guess a single women in her eyes would get her enough tip. I stayed and had a quick bite and was gone Never seeing " a lot of people ". Making a customer feel unwelcome is bad business practice. SHAME ON YOU APRIL.
I got crabs from there #1's Male. The crabs was a nice size and very meaty and flavorful. The best I had actually and I eat crabs 2-3 times a week. They only take cash and you have to be 21 years and up to go in. They do have an ATM available on the inside available to use.
Great food...crabs galore.
Great local ambiance and food with boat docks along the river!
We had been waiting patiently for them to open. Thank you SAMBO'S for a wonderful meal 😊 Well worth the wait 🌊🍺🍤
Food was good, price a tad high for a fish sandwich. I loved feeling like I was actually on the water; Looking out the windows
Awesome example of an authentic Delaware Crab shack/tavern. Ordered 2 dozen crabs and mess of hush puppies. Their proprietary seasoning blend is a great diversion from the almost passe old bay. The staff is very friendly, and even gave me a tour of their immaculate kitchen. I highly recommend you check it out if you're in the area!
Will be going back asap. Food was excellent. I got the crab cakes and my husband ordered the honey fried chicken..both delicious. Our server Joanne was very friendly and took great care of us. There were a lot of people there picking crabs and they smelled so nice..I guess I know what I'm ordering next time.
I only had a seafood salad here which was good. The crabs looked amazing but I didn't have any. Nice place to go if you are looking to go someplace different. Sambo's is on Delaware's senic route.
Meet some friends there for crabs. Crabs were tasty. Didn't expect the salt covering. Could have used all the excess salt to exfoliate. Crab cakes were disappointing especially from all the hype. They seemed over cooked and flavorless. Fries were on point, crispy and hot when arrived at the table. Luckily we looked at the website prior to coming because of it being cash only. Another funny thing was when we arrived the place was empty, we were asked if we had reservations. We think that is for the window seats. We ended up with a window seat anyway which is really nice.
Ate the seafood sampler II. It was very tasty, attractive plate. The sampler was plentiful but it was all fried. The coatings were very light keeping g offerings flavorful. Be aware Sambo's Tavern is a cash only business.
One of the best flonders I have had.
My dad and I went there for the crabs. Got the crab bisque, fantastic. Got oysters, raw and steamed, pretty good. The crab cake was the biggest one I've seen and was probably 90% crab and had excellent flavor. And the crabs, ordered half a dozen. Our waitress was really nice and helped us order and showed us how to crack open and get the most of the crabs. A great meal, and yeah, it's a bit of a local pub, but if you come in wanting good crab, that's what you'll get
Black Russian,Crab cake sandwich with coleslaw and then... 1/2 dozen steamed crabs to share with a great friend!! Then we went for a an old time Sunday ride on a Wednesday. What an afternoon. Can't get any better!!
Nice, peaceful view sitting on the Leipsic River. Service was adequate. Everything is fried. Would prefer broiled. Lettuce and tomato cost 50 cents extra on sandwiches. Never seen that before. Crab cake was 90 %crab! Very little filler. Flounder sandwich was lacking flavor but was a nice size. Be forewarned....cash only...no credit cards.
The best seafood and service anywhere I have been on the East Coast. A must for anyone traveling anywhere near there.
Sambo's was great. They are a 21 and over place and we got ID'd when we entered the place, probably cause we had to wear our masks to enter the place. We ordered a dozen clams, a half dozen jumbo shrimp, a basket of fries, some Manhattan clam chowder, and some crab bisque. All of it was great! You should make a reservation before you come, especially if you plan on eating crab! The view from the tables was great. We'll be back next time we're in the area! See pics!
Stopped in for a beer with the wife. Place looks super clean...love the retro/small town decor. Will come back next weekend for lunch...
The crab bisque is divine. Full of cream and flavor. For me, I cannot bear the idea of breading on scallops, so I far prefer them seared on the grill. This is a serene dining experience, very relaxing.
No. 1s are meaty, delicious, and full.
Very good place. Drinks were great and crabs too
Excellent fresh seafood, good service, beautiful location overlooking the water. Well priced. 21 and over.
Love the fact that kids aren't allowed. Friendly staff. Good food. Cold drinks. Recommended highly.
We stopped here for lunch after visiting Bombay Hook. So happy we did! Service was attentive but not rushed. Tables in the back had a lovely view of the Leipsic River. Food was excellent! Shrimp Jammers was a very good deep fried cheese stuffed shrimp. Crab bisque was thick and creamy. Crab Imperial was fantastic! I plan on going back!
Service was on point! Food was hot and came out very quickly. Softshell crabs were some of the best I've had, obviously very fresh. Beautiful views and great small town vibe. Would recommend to anyone!
Stopped at Sambo's for a quick lunch on the water and it was awesome! The food, atmosphere, and views were fantastic. Some of the seafood items were a little pricey, but no more than expected. Highly recommend!
I thought the food and service at this restaurant were very good. But as an African-American I am very offended by the name and mascot of this establishment and I hope that in light of current events they are changed. Thank you.
Best kept secret every. The crabs 🦀 was big and full of meat. The bar seat right off the water. No kids allowed. The price was reasonable.
Road trip down to Maryland - hit this place up on the way! Amazing spot!! Local blue crab, friendly staff, and very fresh food! This is a local favorite! Highly recommend trying this place out!
